Body Positions

In volleyball, an important aspect of the sport is the position your body is in, whether you are setting the ball, serving, or spiking. Improper body positions can cause injury to yourself, or potentially others, so you should take great care in assuring that you assume the proper positions.

Setting

When setting the ball, you should always be careful to watch the ball, and be in position several ball lengths before arrival. Facing the target rather than the origin can prevent being hit in the face with the ball. Losing focus on the ball can also result in being unbalanced due to reacting to the ball being where you do not expect it. This can result in injury, as sprained wrists and ankles are a likelihood.

Serving

When performing the serve, you want to make certain your lead foot is opposite from your hitting arm. If your lead and hitting arm are both on the same side, you will be unbalanced, which can result in a wide serve and injury. You must also make certain to hold a firm wrist position when completing the serve.

Spiking

This can be one of the more dangerous aspects of volleyball. When spiking the ball, you will be in motion, and using a heavy, hard action on the wrist and your body. As you are jumping in this move, you run risk of sprained ankles and other foot related injuries. Injuries resulting from falls are also extremely potential in this move. When performing your spike, there are several things you need to remember. First, you should be jumping with both feet. A one foot jump can lead to injury. Also, you should not perform a "tennis" swing. This is where you side-sweep with one arm, while your other arm swings backwards. This is a risk to yourself and your teammates, and should be avoided. Your wrist should also be held back in this position, and snapped forward on the spike. A dead-on hit can jam or sprain your wrist. By keeping these small tips in mind, you should be able to prevent injuries.

Passing

This is the one of the most common moves in volleyball. The pass, or the forearm bump, is performed by holding your hands together and hitting the ball with your forearms. A good pass involves your hands being held together, while your elbows are held straight, and your wrists remain firmly in position. Your body should be positioned towards your target when the pass is completed. If any of these things are not done during the pass, you run a risk of injury to yourself and others. This is where a great deal of wrist injuries occur, as hitting the ball with your hands instead of your forearms can cause sprains or breaks in your wrists.

Physical Contact

In Volleyball, physical contact should be avoided at all times. As this is a no-contact sport, collisions usually result in injuries that prevent you or your teammates from participating in future games. While many sprains only take a week or two to heal, broken ankles and wrists from collisions take far longer and can ruin your season. Always keep in mind where your teammates and opponents are. By doing this, you can save yourself and your comrades a lot of pain and trouble.

At first, all of these volleyball safety tips may be overwhelming. However, without them, you will find yourself out of play due to a painful injury. Persistence in following the basic rules of safety can prevent this and enable you to enjoy the game to its fullest extent.

Shawn Collins: Thank you to Todd Crawford from oneNetworkDirect. He's the Vice President of Sales and Business Development. And just last night, he won the Legend Award for Affiliate Marketing, the Wayne Porter Affiliate Marketing Legend Award, and congratulations on that, Todd.

Todd Crawford: Thanks. It's a real honor. I was very, very pleased to have been nominated and to have won.

Lisa Picarille: So, I guess now we're going to find out what's going on behind the legend. What makes him a legend? So, maybe you can start off by telling us how you got into this for the folks who don't know.

Todd: Well most people probably know me best from my days at Commission Junction. I started in '98 with that company in Minneapolis. Most of what I was doing was sales. So, I was selling to merchants.

And I really didn't have to deal directly with affiliates. But because it's such an important part of the business, I was interacting with them on message boards and events. So, I kind of got a name for myself.

I guess it eventually evolved into kind of being seen as the face of Commission Junction. I think that's probably what I'm best known for.

Shawn: So how long was that, that you started at Commission Junction?

Todd: '98 until March of 2006. I kind of got to a turning point in my life and felt like I was never going to leave or I would have to leave. So I decided to leave and take a little break. And now I'm at Digital River.

Lisa: So, tell us what you're doing at Digital River, what your responsibilities are.

Todd: Well, Digital River is a leading global e commerce outsourcing company. So, they basically provide the e commerce infrastructure for large software publishers that write software like Symantec, and they also provide marketing services.

So, oneNetworkDirect is the affiliate marketing service for our clients. So, our network is based on software publishers, and we don't really sell anything other than that.

Shawn: For the show here at Affiliate Summit, do you have any new news for that company. I know you have the new name.

Todd: Yeah, we were just oneNetwork. We didn't own that domain, and we were on a sub domain of Digital River. So we finally got our own domain. We got onenetworkdirect.com.

So we re launched on that domain with a new website, home page, look and feel. It's beautiful. I didn't do any of the work, but it's really, really turned out great.

We also launched a new affiliate interface, cleaned it up, made it look more like the home page so it carries a little more continuity, and launched some new features, like improved reporting as well as which also includes product level reporting and then also a new product called trial tracker.

And what trial tracker is, is the ability for affiliates to promote free trials of software, that you can download for free obviously, and then it'll embed the affiliate ID into it. So it doesn't need a cookie to track it later. And that way if the consumer wants it on their desktop, if the consumer ever buys their software, the affiliate is the only one that can be credited with it.

So we just launched that technology and we're getting our first offer up from Web Root this week, actually, in the middle of a bunch of email strings we're trying to get that out.

Shawn: Do you have any feeling for what the future holds for affiliate marketing?

Todd: Well it's pretty interesting that you know when you look at it from '98 '99 '00, it's so dramatically different. I really love the industry because it's constantly evolving.

I think affiliates are known as the innovators out there, and that's what keeps it moving forward. I don't know if I could predict anything specific, but it's going to be exciting to watch.

Lisa: Are there any particular areas that oneNetworkDirect is concentrating on?

Todd: Well because we only work with our own clients, our big focus is really on the affiliate side of the business. In my previous job I went out and sold to merchants. I dont have to do that anymore. Its really about affiliate development. Thats what our whole, really, team does.

So its great to not worry about the merchant side of the business, and really just focus on recruiting and developing relationships; providing them with the tools that they want.

Were launching more Web services, as well as the recent product features that we released.

Presenting - Mary Lee from Spiaggia Restaurant - A Hospitality Entrepreneur with a Heart for the Art

One restaurant I have wanted to check out for a long time is Spiaggia Trattoria ("spiaggia" is Italian for beach) at the eastern end of the Queen Street strip. Local Beach expert Glenn Cochrane had mentioned that the owner, Mary Lee, was an interesting person and recommended that I interview her. To catch her before the busy evening hours at her establishment I met her at 5:30 and we sat down in a quiet corner at the back of the restaurant.

Mary Lee indicated that she and her husband John moved into the Beach in 1989. Before the couple moved to this neighbourhood h they used to live in an apartment at the Sutton Place Hotel. When she noticed my surprise Mary Lee explained that the 19th to the 31st floor of this famous hotel in Toronto were set aside for rent-controlled residential apartments. Even today some of the apartments are still occupied by the original tenants. I had never known that there were private apartments in the Sutton Place Hotel. You never stop learning about your own city

Prior to becoming restaurant entrepreneurs, Mary Lee was an interior designer while her husband worked as an architect at the Bank of Montreal. Spiaggia was not their first foray into the hospitality ownership; the couple had owned restaurants in Oakville and on St. Clair Avenue in Toronto. In 1990 they bought the building that the current restaurant is located in; it housed five apartments and the small Spiaggia..

Mary Lee and her husband immediately set about renovating the property and when the demolition work started, they found newspapers in the wall dating back to 1902. Throughout the entire renovation process they continued to operate the existing restaurant, and the patrons enjoyed watching the stucco work being performed on the building, right through the front windows.

Today the second floor holds a beautiful apartment Mary Lee took me briefly upstairs and I saw a spacious apartment with an unusual layout with lots of angles and a gorgeous light-coloured decorating scheme, obviously the results of her interior design talents. She took me out on the rear balcony and mentioned that she can see all the way to Torontos City Hall from this location.

The couple spent three years overhauling the building and dealt with the glitches along the way. One local regulation required that they keep the old plumbing intact while they were installing the new pipes. As a result, the building today has two sets of plumbing throughout, of course only the new plumbing is being used.

Mary Lee's real estate investment and renovation skills as well as her protective sentiments about the neighbourhood became evident when a video rental store across the street was being converted into an adult video store. Concerned about the impact on the neighbourhood, the couple bought the property and turned it into an art gallery. The adult video store relocated further west on Queen Street outside of the Beach neighbourhood.

When her husband passed away in 1998, Mary Lee closed down the art gallery since she did not have enough time to manage both businesses. A graphic design business now occupies the space. Mary Lee mentions that during the difficult time around her husbands death her loyal restaurant customers took care of her. Their support and the higher workload she was carrying by herself now helped her get through a difficult transition period.

We started talking about Spiaggia and the unique features of this fine dining restaurant. Spiaggia is open seven days a week in the evenings from 5 to 11 pm. It has two sitting areas and the area on the north side of the building can be booked for private meetings. Often this room holds special events for up to 20 people.

The cuisine at Spiaggia includes seven different types of pasta dishes, fresh fish, seafood and veal dishes. Spiaggia is part of Eat Smart! - Ontario's Healthy Restaurant Program, an exclusive program that awards Ontario restaurants that meet high standards in food safety, nutrition and non-smoking seating. Mary Lee added that guests are able to get customized meals that are prepared right in front of them in the open kitchen. Guests always enjoy healthy, fresh food at Spiaggia.

As we were sitting there Mary Lee told me a couple of humorous stories: in late December she got an out-of-town reservation with a credit card from a prospective restaurant patron in the US. They called a week ahead to reserve a seat for Spiaggias New Years Eve dinner event. Mary Lee was wondering what had happened when these customers did not show up. A few days later she got a phone call from a woman in West Virginia who said she was not able to locate Spiaggia on Queen Street, but was finally able to find it on Michigan Avenue in Chicago!

Apparently she had found information about Spiaggia on the Internet and planned to have a nice New Years Eve dinner in Chicago, but ended up making the reservation with Spiaggia Trattoria in Toronto!

Even more humorous and unusual is the story behind Mary Lees espresso machine. In the 1970s she travelled to Florida with her husband in their Corvette. On the way back home John spotted an unusual object in a shop window in Fort Lauderdale. He made an immediate U-turn and went into the store to inquire about this interesting-looking item.

It turned out that the object was an espresso machine made in Italy, but the 1970s was an era before fancy coffee concoctions. When Mary Lees husband inquired as to what the object was, the man simply responded in a southern drawl it makes coffee. John had to have the espresso machine and ended up buying it for $21,000, which 30 years ago was more money than what he had paid for the Corvette.

He simply had to buy this espresso machine, and because there wasnt enough space in the car for both Mary Lee and the espresso maker, he dropped her off at the airport and drove home with the espresso machine strapped into the passenger seat sticking out of the roof. Mary Lee laughed and said I am the only broad who has ever been dumped for an espresso machine. Today the machine is still used to make coffee.

Mary Lee told me about her attachment to the Beach neighbourhood. She said she loves the area and enjoys taking walks on Queen Street or on the Boardwalk. It is a neighbourhood with a very high quality of life, one of those Toronto neighbourhoods that even have a busy street life on Sundays. She chuckled when she mentioned a popular local saying: you cant live in this neighbourhood unless you have a dog or a stroller. The Beach is indeed very popular with dog owners and young families.

Unfortunately international events have had an impact on the Beach. The restaurant owners in the Beach and Toronto in general have really been affected by the slow-down of American tourism in Toronto. In 2003 Toronto was hit by the SARS crisis and more recently travel between Canada and the US has become more difficult due to passport requirements and terrorism prevention measures. Mary Lee has noticed a significant decrease in American customers over the last few years. In addition, the popularity of the Beach as an entertainment area has raised rents for many merchants which makes doing business in this neighbourhood more difficult. Mary Lee indicated that she is fortunate since she owns Spiaggias building.

MaryLee explained that she has about 14 full-time and part-time staff members working at Spiaggia. Her chef Jacobo Guerra is originally from Ecuador and has been in Canada since 1979. He started in the hospitality industry 16 years ago after completing a chefs course at George Brown College. In addition to his culinary education Jacobo also has a talent for arts and took a fine art program at the Ontario College of Arts. Jacobos assistant Victor hails from India and came to Canada in 2001. He has been working at Spiaggia for almost three years now and says he has learned everything he knows from the expert, Jacobo.

Art is a common theme at Spiaggia: Brittany Ross works part-time as a waitress at the restaurant and she owns her own photography and web design business. (She designed the Spiagga website.) During my visit I also had a chance to sit down and chat with John Dowding, a renowned local photographer and photography teacher, who regularly participates in the Beach Studio Tour. John has an interesting event coming up in early February: a photo tour to Havana, he and I were going to arrange a one-on-one interview so I would have a chance to learn more about one of the many artists in the Beach.

John indicated that Mary Lee is an active sponsor of the Beach Studio Tour and is always available to help if the artists need something. He commented that over the years he has enjoyed a great friendship with Mary Lee and loves to come here for a good dinner.

After my interview with Mary Lee and my conversation with John Dowding I had a chance to sit down and sample some of Spiaggias cuisine myself. Spiaggias menu is extensive with many mouthwatering choices, and a prix-fix menu including a starter, a main course and a dessert, is available at the reasonable price of $25.95 .

I decided to go for the prix fix menu and had a Caesar salad to start followed by an extremely tasty Vitello alla Balsamic a delicious arrangement of grilled veal, mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, with a leeks balsamic Dijon sauce and garlic butter capellini on the side. I am not usually much of a meat eater, but the tender veal accompanied by an interesting array of vegetable flavours was scrumptious. My dinner partner had the Gorgonzola Carbonara and commented that it was fabulous as well. After a delicous tiramisu, my favourite Italian dessert, Mary Lee treated us to a sampling of the famous chocolate mousse with raspberry sauce. All I can say I was glad I had finally made the trek down to discover Trattoria Spiaggia.

And I had a chance to meet Mary Lee, a gifted interior designer, a restaurant owner committed to serving high quality fresh and healthy food and an entrepreneur with a big heart for the arts

Equipment vendors who offer a properly structured leasing program are not only giving the customer a viable financing option, they are taking a major step to increase sales, market share, and profits. Yet its surprising how many companies will not provide a leasing program. Some say its because their customers have their own sources. Others say their customers pay cash. This mindset can be costly in a variety of ways. The biggest problem is that it can drive the customer to the arms of your competition.

Some equipment suppliers do offer a leasing program, but give the customer a choice between several leasing companies for them to use. That may sound practical, but shopping deals with a multitude of leasing companies can actually lower the chance of approval. If the customer chooses one of the leasing companies, and is subsequently declined, two negative actions may result. First, the credit inquiry lowers the customers credit score. You need to have a set of business rules that take the emotion out of the decision. No exceptions...they either make the grade or they go. Establish the criteria and define the reasonableness of those criteria. Be prepared to apply them equally at all times. What is good credit

Define it using the elements of credit and the credit score. The credit reporting warehouses have average scores by region. You can use the average FICO score for your area as a benchmark or guideline.

Elements of credit: How do you define bad credit? Generally by timely payments to credit cards or other debts. How many 30 day/60 day/90day late payments are acceptable? Should you accept any 60 or 90 day late payments? Too many could be a sign of irresponsibility. Consider your parameters regarding ability or willingness to pay and create a business rule you never break.

Consider the FICO score: The major credit reporting agencies have information regarding what is average score by region or nationally. According to the Experian web site the national average as of this writing is 678. You may begin here to attach meaning to the number for your own screening process.

Bankruptcies: Should you accept any at all? What if it was many years ago, if so how far back would be acceptable? Generally bankruptcies beyond 7 years are not reported.

Evictions: Should you accept anyone who has been evicted?

No credit history or social security number: Is there an age in which it seems reasonable to have little or no history? Some new residents will not have a credit history in this country. Would an in-state guarantors promise to pay solve your problem?

Income: Consider how you will handle gross income as a multiple of rent. What is the multiple of income to rent or the income to rent ratio you will use. Should income be 2.5 times the cost of rent or 3 times rent? Should you combine the gross income of two earners? This is generally accepted solution, but what if one tenant has most of the income and thats the one that moves out, leaving a tenant on the lease under capitalized and with little ability to pay the rent? Proof of income: Is it good enough to call the employer with the number given of the application(s)? Recent pay stubs should be used to corroborate the phone call to a business owner.

The Guarantor: Should the Guarantor reside in the state where the tenancy is?

Sources of income: All sources of income are treated equally. The income may come from the work place, Federal programs, passive investment income or trust income. There is no legal distinction that can be made. These rules may vary in your state.

References: Be sure to ask for prior landlords and call them. The present landlord may not be willing to tell you if the applicant is a problem tenant. The desire to see the tenant go may over ride any need to be completely honest. The prior reference is very critical. If an applicant was a problem once it's likely that you may also have problems.

AC Cars - A British Tradition

AC Cars, more formally known as AC Cars Group, Limited, is the name of an automobile manufacturing company based in the United Kingdom. As a matter of fact, AC Cars is one of the most old and established automobile manufacturing companies in the world. The first AC car to ever be shown was at a motor show in 1903, under the pseudonym Weller Brothers - another automobile manufacturing company.

In 1904, AC Cars was officially introduced as Auto Cars and Accessories. From the three wheeler that the company originally came up with more force in 1911 after they started to call themselves Auto Carriers, Limited and shortened that to the AC brand name.

New Beginnings

In 1913, the very first four wheeled sports car was put out in 1913. It was immediately a hit, but not many of these cars were made. The first World War emerged around that time and put a serious halt to construction of these sporty little cars. They were what people were looking for at the time, but with war times come hard times and more expensive labor as there is much less of it, and for that reason AC Cars had to put a halt to the production of their first little two seater.

However, by the year 1920 there were more things in store for AC motors. For example, they were working on a six cylinder engine by 1919 and they even had some of them running that same year.

After the war ended, the AC Car company picked up a contract that helped to pay the bills but didn't really advance the AC brand name too much. They manufactured carriage cars for the handicapped and invalid and these cars had small engines in them that AC also manufactured. This contract went on for some time, for about 30 years after the contracted was initiated in 1947. The contract that AC cars had with the government paid the bills, and many of them at that. The fact that it lasted so long gave jobs to a lot of people and it kept the economy somewhat functional.

AC Ace in 1953

The AC Ace is one of the more popular models of AC motor cars. The AC Ace was first introduced in 1953, midday through the government contract for the small engine vehicles. The AC Bristol was later introduced in 1957, a cross between the AC Ace and a Bristol car with the AC cars chassis and the Bristol engine to create the AC Bristol car. The AC Bristol car was a true winner, blowing racing fans away at Le Mans two years in a row, both in 1957 and 1958.

The Implementation of the AC Cobra

In the early 1960s, the AC Car company received a proposition that would change the face of their company. While many people probably think that the Cobra was always a product of the Ford company, that is just not so. A car was needed that could rival with then-champ Chevy Corvette in motor car racing in the United States and the new AC Cobra model stepped right up to the plate. The Cobra wasn't always the fastest, sportiest thing out there, either. As a matter of fact, the car topped out at 70 miles per hour after speeding in bad conditions was leading to accident after accident. In consideration of the safety of their passengers and probably the security of their assets as well, the AC Cars company reduced the limit to 70 miles per hour so that the car could go no faster.

At first this quick little car was getting left in the dust by the Ferrari so Carroll Shelby and the AC company decided to step their game up a little bit and they boosted the size of the engine, giving it extra speed and power on the track. Eventually Shelby sold the Cobra name off to the Ford Motor Company, who then modified the Cobra idea into the Ford GT sports car.

AC Cars is and always has been a legendary car company. It is one of the oldest in the world and is often overlooked for their critical role in the Shelby Cobra vehicle.

Ingredients

3/4 cup dried red kidney beans, soaked overnight
2 teaspoons olive oil
1/2 teaspoon whole cumin seeds
1/2 tablespoon chopped garlic
3/4 cup coarsely chopped onions
1/2 large sweet red pepper, seeded and diced
1/2 large green pepper, seeded and diced
3/4 tablespoons mild chili powder
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1 1/2 cups water
1 tablespoons tomato paste
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

Instructions

Drain and rinse the beans. Set aside. In a large saucepan, warm the oil over medium-high heat. Add the cumin seeds and sizzle for 5 seconds. Add the garlic, onions, red peppers, green peppers, chili powder and oregano. Saut over medium-high heat for 3 minutes, stirring frequently. Add the beans and water.

Bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Uncover and simmer for 30 to 45 minutes, or until the beans are tender. (Add more water if the mixture becomes too dry during cooking.)

Stir in the tomato paste and salt. Cook for 2 minutes. Just before serving, stir in the cilantro.

- You accept you generally won't be over the minimum threshold most of the time
- You will be charged the same rate of fees whether you have $1 or $4999 in your account

OK, now calculate the minimum you need in your account to service your bills and expenses. Say for example you need every month, ignoring your credits for now, $1000. Calculate the lowest average balance you have had for the last 6 months, say for example that it is $4,300. Start an internet only based money account which doesn't allow bill payments, cheques, etc and is essentially a savings only account with a much better rate of interest than your transaction account (most likely less than 1%). You should be able to get at least 4% more in a non-transactional savings account.

The philosophy with these accounts is that because they are totally electronic and linked to your transactional account, the financial institution can pass on the savings in infrastructure cost (people, printed media, buildings etc) and pass that on to you in the form of additional interest. Let's assume you get 5% annual percentage rate and fee free internet transactions.

- Now $4300 - $1000 = $3300 of floating cash not earning interest or very little.
- Say you move $3000 into your savings account, leaving $1300 to service your expenses with a $300 buffer.
- Using a simple interest formula, you would receive $3000*0.05/12 = $12.50 in interest per month

This may not match your transactional fees however you are now $12.50 cash better than your previous position. You're working your transactional account with no additional penalty and have commenced your savings/emergency fund which you can add to or withdraw if required.

If you're not comfortable doing these calculations see your financial advisor who can help and of course you would need to keep monitoring you monthly expenses to ensure you are not exceeding your monthly $1000 expenses spend are replenishing your transactional account with at least an amount greater than your expenses each month.

Did you grow up in the '70s and '80s? If so, you probably have a slew of campy jingles from various TV commercials filed away in your brain. Today, advertisers still use jingles to help identify their brand, but not nearly as much as they did "back in the day." Why is this?

Part of it is probably that in the digital age, there are so many more options. Companies spend money on electronic campaigns rather than television, because they know there's a planet full of non-TV watching prospects that can be reached via the internet. Digital equipment makes video production super fast and easy, which means that if you've got an idea for something outlandish and wild that possibly involves a celebrity or special effects, it can be done fairly quickly. Musicians and celebrities are willing to sell the rights to their music or their image, to advertisers who want people to equate their brand with a popular song or celebrity icon. Many advertisers opt to make commercials that attract attention for bizarreness or shock value.

Even so: is a commercial that's loaded with larger-than-life graphics, chilling special effects and famous celebrities going to make people remember your product? Is a commercial that's off-beat and "artsy" a good choice as a brand builder? These days, theres an awful lot of information to take in. Your commercial might be cutting-edge creative, but what does that matter if people are only half-paying attention anyway?

We retain information by developing associations. In recalling people and events, your brain links one idea to another and then connects the two. Music does this especially well. Is there a song that reminds you of your first love? Is there a soundtrack to your life that conjures up a steady stream of memories? Most people would answer yes. Which would explain why kitschy little songs from '70s and '80s television did such a nice job of burning all of those brands into our minds and keeping them there to this very day.

I used to write ad copy for Toys"R"Us. I remember when they decided to bring back their classic song, of course you know what it is! I dont wanna grow up, Im a ToyRUs kid... It was the perfect time to do this. The original ToysRUs kids were all grown up with new ToysRUs kids of their own... but the memory was still there, ready to be brought back to life. So the second time around, ToysRUs funked up their famous old jingle, hired a band to play the rock n roll rendition... unveiled a whistling only version of the tune... and did it bring back the ToysRUs kid in all of us? You bet it did!

Even if some of them were annoying, the campy jingle lives on in our memories! Can you identify the tune that goes with each of these famous lines?

As we progress further into the digital age, we must realize that sometimes a simple message is often the most effective one. Thats especially true for branding.

If youre about to embark on a grand-scale advertising plan, consider hiring someone to write a short, catchy jingle that you can use in your television, radio, and even internet advertising. Make it a tune thats sure to stick in the consumers mind. Just like the classic commercials you know and love, youll be remembered for generations to come.

Conquer your learning curve faster when you learn to surf.

Does good surfing instruction make a difference to your learning curve when learning to surf? You bloody bet it does!

Most of the older guys you see in the water these days did not have the benefit of surf schools when they where learning. The only surf school they attended was the school of hard knocks, heavy wipe outs, and plenty of peer pressure.

It took me years to learn what good surfing instruction from an experienced coach can teach you in hours today. The only surfing instruction available to us was watching other guys in the water, copying what they where doing, and hanging on for grim death if it all came unstuck, which it usually did.

If you want to learn to surf, and to skip the trial and error. I suggest you find a good surf school and take classes with an experienced instructor.

Tips for finding a good surf school.

1. Look for schools with accredited coaches. In most countries, surfing instructors are required to be accredited coaches through the governing body for that country.

2. Check out how the school operates. A good operator is a good sign they take the business of surfing instruction seriously.

3. Check out the schools gear. Surfing gear such as wetsuits and surfboards that are in good shape and well maintained is another great sign that they are serious about their business.

4. Ask people who have had lessons with the school. Did it work for them?

5. Have a chat with the instructors and go with your gut feel.

If you can get onto a good school your surfing will come on in leaps and bounds. Good surfing instruction really does make a world of difference.

Every agency must hire a lawyer, who will guarantee that the papers are correct and that the sales contract is ready to be made. Even in this part of property transaction the buyer is the one that makes the conditions. The sales contract should be made so that both sides, the buyer and the seller, agree on terms and conditions of the contract. All verbal agreements must be stated in the contract, and if the seller has bound himself by some given promises relevant to the property, it should be stated in the written contract. When the contract is made, one must read it thoroughly and freely ask questions whenever something seems ambiguous. After signing the contract, the agency is obliged to get all paperwork done as quickly as possible; do not forget that those who are buying a property for the first time do not have to pay compulsory taxes. And, of course, good luck with your first purchase!

Its been ten years since Toyota introduced their first hybrid car, the Prius, to the market for energy and pollution conscious consumers. The model has seen significant success and maintains a steady waiting list for this interested in owning one. The market is booming and yet where is the competition? Honda hopped on with hybrid models of their popular Civic and Accord models, and Nissan is looking to edge their way in as their market share grows world-wide, but the original developers of the automobile, the American Auto Manufacturers, with the exception of a product line equivalent to sticking their toe in the water, have remained rather silent on the issue.

It looks like 2007 will be a step in the right direction though as 10 new hybrid models will release this year alone, six of those from Detroits big three automakers. And if the government takes the steps to curb emissions and raise CAFE standards, its entirely likely that the industry might start to shift much of their focus to the hybrid car market in an attempt to curb the inevitable downturn in their profits.
